Remaking our ots;

As we have to re-film everything we as a group decided it was best to re-write our entire story as the previous "Pin-Up Girls" didnt feel like a noir film, Lewis has created a new storyboard for the new film as seen below:

Saturday 23 February 2013

Summary post;

After we lost our First OTS we had a group meeting to decided what we will do for our new OTS, after talking about different ideas.

But we finally decided on an idea and that was:

A man walking to a house that at first we are unknowing who's house it is, we see the man approaching the house twice the first is the present day and he is thinking about the first time he ever came to the house and we see a flash back, again him walking to the house but this time with a newspaper with the address on it, he enters the house heads to the back of the house and meets the woman,  the man and woman exchange convocation, the man offers her a smoke, and notices she is cold and gives he coat to her, but not before taking he gun out of his pocket in to the back of his trousers. after a few words have been exchanged (which we can't hear as there's is music and a voice over) they head in to the house and they hold each others hands, we then go back to the present to see the man entering the house just like he did all them months ago.
We then cut to the woman doing her make-up we see her from the view of the mirror then from over her shoulder seeing the mirror then we jump to the mirror shot again but the woman is laying on the floor dead with her being struck by something but we don't know by what or by who (you will have to watch the rest of the film to find out).

Target Audience

The target for our OTS is both women and men who are in to film noir's, love story's and crime story's (who done it). We hope that the storyline to our new OTS will engage the viewers as we have all things people want in a film noir;
 Love, hate, romance, a murder and mystery.

Script for the voice over;

I can remember the first day i met her, with the address on the newspaper 15th of February. That day we spent together was sublime it will never leave my thoughts. she was the love, the hate of my life i feared the days after that perfect day that she would leave me for that other man, him the man who ruined it. why did he do this it must of been him, it must of. that day was the best day she was beautiful, kind, sweet and best of all she was mine. Even the way she took the smoke, the way she said my name.. my name.

she was beautiful..

Locations;

Title;

Daniel had the idea of our new name which is 'Broken Identity' and after discussing this with the group we chose that it was a good idea. Broken Identity sounds like it fits the Film Noir genre as it has a mysterious effect to it, it fits our story line because Scarlet has a type of broken identity due to her two completely different personality's when she is with the detective and when she is with the murderer, its like she has two different identity's.

We are still using our way of distribution as streaming and in a picture house cinema which is in a post further down.

First saved version;

This is our first version of our new ots, we are going to change certain parts of it after watching the feedback off of our class mates and taking on board their opinions.

Broken Identity from Lucy Easton on Vimeo.

Our cast;

Our new cast only includes me, as the Femme-Fatal Scarlet and Ethan as a Journalist Johnathan because we chose to cut out the murderer to create more tension of guessing what he looks like. Also in opening title sequences all characters are not usually seen, the murderer is mentioned in the voice over of Johnathan to include him in the opening slightly and to show the link between him and Scarlet.

Update;

After changing the whole idea of our original ots after it being deleted we re-filmed the new story line that we came up with, today i uploaded and edited the clips which we are happy with and our ots is nearly complete minus minor glitches. We are planning to show it to our class mates on Friday and collect their good and bad opinions, changing aspects of the ots if we agree with their bad opinions to make it the best we can. It has been a difficult and stressful situation having to re-film the whole of our ots but working together we have completed it and ended up with what we think a better outcome than we had in the first time as there is more of a romance story line and a large range of camera shots, also there are more editing techniques because i have became more confident on Imovie this year remembering techniques i used in GCSE. All together as a group we are happy with our new ots.

Pictures of us filming our new ots;

First day filming for the new OTS

First day filming for our new OST as we where unable to recover our original footage.

What we got up to.

Today we came up with an idea that we would use for our new OTS as we thought that with our new skills we have learnt though out our media year that we would use a various  use of camera techniques when filming.

The scene we shot today was a small part with scarlet (Lucy) doing her make-up in the mirror, when she is suddenly killed by a source that we don't know and we also do not know who the killer is.

We created the mise-en-scene to look like the hall way or a dress room for a female with the make-up hit on the floor when scarlet has been knocked down by the murder. I was wearing a skin tight black dress with knee high socks, red lipstick and heavy eye makeup with very little jewelry except a nose ring to make it a little more modern.

Problem in production;

Our ots has accidentally been deleted due to students accounts being deleted for more memory for the macs at school, our ots project was on one of the accounts that has been deleted. The technician is trying to recover our ots clips which will need to be re-edited completely if they can be recovered. This has hugely affected our project as we were extremely close to finishing and could have easily handed it in for the deadline Friday but it now is likely to have be done all over again.

OTS;

This is our first finished edit which we have changed, improved, re-filmed and also added sound of the theme music and Femme-Fatal's voice over.

The reason that the video is small is because it was not exported into the correct file which i have recently learnt how to do correctly, i can not now export it again which is explained why i cant in the next post.

Pin-up Girls from Lucy Easton on Vimeo.

Gun Shot;

We need to create the sound of a gun shot for one of our scenes, to do this i have thought about materials we can use to record the sound using the Mrantz.

These are some materials i have thought of using;

A ruler hitting a table;

Two planks of wood hitting together;

Standing on a bag/pocket of air and creating an echo;

Film Titles;

I have researched Film Noir titles to try make our ots title fit the genre more and we will try create one of these styled titles instead of Just using the Imovie fonts if we have enough time.

Production Company Title;

Our production company for my groups ots was called 'Entertainment Central' but after researching similar films production company's names i realized that this name is not suited for the genre and plot of our ots and also does not sound right. As our ots is a Neo Noir i researched more modern production company's that produce scary/dark films so the company fits the genre and chose 'Momentum Pictures' as our production company after checking it through with my group. Momentum Pictures has produced popular films for years, it has created comedy's, Drama's but most commonly terrifying films such as 'The Women In Black', 'Insidious', 'Sinister', 'Apartment 143', 'A Night In The Woods', 'House At the End Of the Street' being the most popular. Also the production company's design of the title is bold and clear which fits the common titles for Film Noir films.

This is the commonly used Momentum pictures title; Which is bold and clear like the 'double Indemnity' film title.

I searched through the different styled Momentum title designs and found this one which i think would suit our ots and fit into it very well, i will talk to my group and ask their opinion on using it. It is similar to 'The Locket' film title.

Distribution;

These are ways of the type of media being shown from the industry to the audience;

Blu Ray

TV Broadcast

Pay to view

Freeview

Cable

Satellite

Streamed Legal

Streamed Illegal

Downloaded Legal

Downloaded Illegal

Cinema - Art house

Cinema - Multiplex

DVD to buy

DVD to rent

All of these above are common ways of an audience viewing a film, each used by different types and ages of people depending on which way they would prefer and enjoy to view the film. I personally enjoy the experience of watching a new film at the cinema, paying to view it on my t.v or purchasing a DVD to watch in the comfort of my own house.

Typical Film Noir Audiences;

Film Noir originated as being a popular film genre within Hollywood. The classical film noir period is generally regarded as extending from the early 1940s to the late 1950s.

Within these years men became the main audience for Film Noir films and would have visited the Picture house as they would have called it to view a film with friends after a hard weeks work. Men are the main audience as the films are dark and gloomy, with smoking, violence and murders and topped off with a 'sexy' Femme-Fatal which all together attracted men to the genre. These factors would not particularly attract women because they look for different aspects within a film and these aspects would not usually fit them.

Specification;

These are the levels of AS Media Studies specifications from the OCR website which i will need
to meet to reach a high grade for my OTS and evaluation.

What we're currently doing;

We have finished editing our ots and have completed the sound to go with it, Daniel created two sections of music using a piano which have a very low tone to fit the mood in our ots. We need to re-film a certain section of Daniel and Lewis walking away from the murder to their shed as it was shot too late at night so it has turned out extremely dark and blury as it is unfocused, we plan to shoot this at around 4:30 as this is when it starts to get dark but it is still visable to see what is going on. I read the script of my voice over and recorded it with a Mrantz microphone and uploaded it to our Imovie and we are currently cutting and editing that voice clip.

Non-real time used in our OTS;

In a team meeting we came up with a few films that we would use as inspiration when making our OTS, and one that stuck with us was the hit film 'Memento' because the film uses Non-real time which we decided we would use, because we thought that rewind motion at the end of our OTS would work nicely as it gives the viewer the feeling that they have missed something with in the OTS and that we have to go back to find out what it is if missed and in this case who the killers are.

I have worked to make this inspiration of the non-real time become reality within our OTS which we as a group are very happy with.

Distribution + Exhibition for U.K audiences;

Genre, Audience and Institution;

Our ots is a modern intake on neo noir and it is a crime movie.

It is mainly aimed at men between 25 - 40 and would either be streamed online which is usually from a website with a range of films available for free which can be watched instantly on a laptop, ipad ect.

Steaming online;

Picture house cinema;

Or shown in a picture house cinema which
is a network of art house cinemas in the U.K, they are usually small cinema's with smaller screens, more comfortable and better quality seating with a classical look to it. Picture house cinemas also show more varied, arty and alternative films which the larger cinemas would not choose to show. Our ots would be shown here as it does not have the quality's to be shown in a known cinema such as vue or odeon on a big screen because our ots does not include close ups and does not show expressions and feelings on the actors face which is very common in a cinema screening and also the lighting is extremely dark and dull which is not common in a recently made film aimed for the cinema franchise.

Pictures of the cast in our ots and the inspired characters;

Daniel Osborne;The character of Leon is inspired by screams 'Stu'.

Ethan Rundle; Ethan's character is inspired by the character Eddie from 'The Red Riding Hood Trilogy'

Lewis Watson;
 Lewis's character is inspired by screams 'Billy'.
Lucy Easton;
The comparison of my character is the femme fatal, Rita from Mulholland Drive as they both believe they are powerful and in control but is turns out that they are not at all.
